How to choose a curriculum

YOUR CURRICULUM CHOICE IS IMPORTANT.

Deciding on the curriculum that is best for your small group has immense influence on its direction over the next several months and potentially even in the lifetime of your small group members. Prayerfully consider which curriculum is best for your group.

As you consider choosing your small group curriculum, we encourage you to…

  1. Choose a curriculum that will be best for your entire small group. Although you or one member of your small group may desire a particular material, that doesn’t mean that it is the best one for your entire group. To the best of your ability, identify a curriculum that will challenge every member of your small group to take the next step in their walk with Christ.

  2. Choose varying types of curriculum. Sometimes we can get stuck choosing the same type of material for our small group. For instance, don’t’ choose two doctrinal studies in a row. Rather, choose curriculum from the various categories. The curriculum options are organized into the following categories: doctrinal studies, spiritual life studies, and family life studies.

  3. Choose a curriculum with your small group’s input. Seek input from your small group members regarding which topic to choose. However, don’t simply open every option. It’s usually best to think and pray about it first, then suggest two or three options that you think would be best for your small group rather than the complete list of options. As the small group leader, lead your small group to the study they need.

  4. Include your small group coach in your curriculum decision. Use them as a sounding board in the decision-making process because their experience and wisdom is valuable.
